Las Vegas Breaks Temperature Record, Hits 80 Degrees for the First Time in 2025

A Warm Welcome to Spring – At Least for Now
Winter is making an early exit in Las Vegas, as the city experienced an unseasonably warm day on Monday, with temperatures reaching 80 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). The previous record for February 3 was 77 degrees, set in 2018. The last time Las Vegas hit 80 degrees was back on October 28, 2024.
More Record-High Temperatures Expected on Tuesday
Monday morning started warmer than usual, with the official temperature recorded at Harry Reid International Airport reaching 63 degrees by 9:40 a.m., already surpassing the normal high for early February. By noon, the temperature climbed to 74 degrees.
Tuesday’s forecast suggests similar conditions, with the high expected to approach record-breaking levels once again. The current record for February 4 stands at 76 degrees, set in 1953. However, strong wind gusts are anticipated, reaching up to 23 mph on Tuesday and increasing to 31 mph on Wednesday. By the weekend, temperatures will drop slightly, with highs in the 60s and lower 70s expected through Friday.
Heavy Snowfall Pounds Eastern Sierra Mountains
While Las Vegas basks in the warmth, the Eastern Sierras, situated several hundred miles northwest of the city, are experiencing heavy snowfall. According to the NWS, Inyo County in California, which falls under the Las Vegas weather office, is currently seeing intense winter storm activity.
Meteorologist Planz reported that areas like Aspendale, east of Bishop, could see up to a foot of snow at middle elevations, while higher peaks could accumulate between 1 to 3 feet of fresh powder.
High Winds Disrupt Flights in Reno
Severe winds accompanying the storm in the Sierra Nevada region wreaked havoc on air travel. On Sunday, wind speeds reached 80 mph in Reno, leading to over 30 flight delays and cancellations at Reno-Tahoe International Airport, as reported by FlightAware.
One flight traveling from Las Vegas to Reno was even forced to turn back mid-flight, according to a post on social media.
As Nevada experiences contrasting weather conditions, with record-breaking warmth in Las Vegas and heavy snow in the Sierras, residents and travelers should remain prepared for shifting forecasts.
